Tahoka Woman Killed in Crash, Lubbock Driver Charged With Intoxication Manslaughter
LUBBOCK COUNTY, Texas — A Sunday evening crash claimed the life of 47 year old Elizabeth Metcalf of Tahoka and led to an intoxication manslaughter charge against 34 year old Monti Johnson of Lubbock.
Troopers responded shortly after 6:30 p.m. October 18 to the intersection of East FM 1585 and County Road 3100. Metcalf died at the scene.
According to Texas DPS investigators, Metcalf was traveling west on FM 1585 while Johnson was heading north on County Road 3100 toward a stop sign.
Investigators allege Johnson failed to yield the right of way and entered the intersection. Metcalf attempted to avoid the collision, but her vehicle struck the passenger side of Johnson’s vehicle, according to DPS.
Johnson was taken to University Medical Center with minor injuries. He was subsequently booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on an intoxication manslaughter charge, with bond set at $100,000.
The charge is an allegation. Johnson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
