Heavy Rain Could Bring South Plains Flooding Wednesday

The South Plains faces a developing flooding concern Wednesday as thunderstorms move through an unusually moist air mass.

The forecast describes the potential for areas of more than 2 inches of rain, with high rainfall rates capable of producing flooding. That does not mean every community will receive the same amount, and the location of the heaviest rain remains subject to change.

Wednesday follows a separate severe storm risk Tuesday afternoon and evening. Those storms could produce large hail, damaging wind gusts, an isolated tornado and heavy rain, with storm chances increasing into the night.

Repeated rainfall can create problems beyond the first storm, especially where water collects across low roads. Flooded streets should be avoided even when the water appears shallow.

Residents should review how they receive weather alerts and identify an indoor shelter before storms arrive. The outlook describes possible hazards; it does not mean flooding or severe weather has already occurred.
