LIBERTY AND ESTACADO MOVE TOWARD OCTOBER SHOWDOWN

Two unbeaten Lubbock football programs are moving toward an October 23 meeting, with another game still ahead for Estacado.

Liberty and Estacado each improved to 7 wins and 0 losses Friday night. Both also opened district play with a victory.

Liberty beat Borger 64 to 6 on the road. Estacado defeated Perryton 64 to 35, away from home. The Matadors completed their second successful trip of more than 3 hours in the past 3 weeks.

The teams follow different schedules. Liberty has an open date next week before hosting Estacado on October 23. Estacado returns home to face Borger on October 16.

That means both teams are unbeaten today, but their records at that meeting will depend on Estacado’s next result. Friday’s victories do not settle the district race.

The 2 offenses each put 64 points on the scoreboard in Friday’s games, while Liberty allowed 6 and Estacado allowed 35.

For fans watching the district schedule, the next step is Estacado’s home game against Borger before the teams share a field.
