LUBBOCK COULD TIE A RECORD TODAY AS THE HEAT PUSHES TO 103

Lubbock is starting Friday under mostly sunny skies with temperatures expected to climb to about 103 degrees this afternoon. That would put the city in position to tie the September 4 record high set in 2023. The heat will not disappear when the weekend starts either, with Saturday expected near 100 and Sunday near 98. Most of the South Plains should stay dry, although isolated storms could develop closer to the Texas and New Mexico line later today. Anyone working outside, attending evening events or preparing for Saturday football should plan for extra water and limited time in direct sun.
