Lubbock County Adds 8,638 Voters on Day 2, Bringing Early Turnout to 17,490
Lubbock County recorded another busy day at the polls Tuesday, October 20, with 8,638 voters participating on the second day of early voting. That brought the county’s combined turnout for the first 2 days to 17,490, according to turnout figures shared by Gracie Gomez.
Tuesday’s count was just 214 below Monday’s 8,852, a decrease of approximately 2.4%. The small difference showed voting activity remained close to opening day’s pace.
Compared with the previous midterm election, participation was substantially higher. In 2022, Lubbock County recorded 5,733 voters on opening day and 5,795 on the second day, totaling 11,528.
This year’s first 2 days exceeded that total by 5,962 voters, an increase of approximately 51.7%. Tuesday alone drew 2,843 more voters than the second day in 2022.
The closest comparison among the years provided was 2018, when 9,191 voters participated on opening day and 9,106 on the second day. That combined total of 18,297 was 807 above this year’s count, putting 2026 approximately 4.4% behind that pace.
The difference was larger compared with earlier midterms. The first 2 days brought 5,233 voters in 2014, 6,320 in 2010 and 3,918 in 2006. This year’s total was more than 3 times the comparable 2014 count.
The county’s registered voter population has also grown. The figures list 204,576 registered voters in 2026, compared with 187,775 in 2022 and 176,056 in 2018.
Using this year’s registration figure, approximately 8.5% of registered voters participated during the opening 2 days.
The numbers describe voter participation across Lubbock County. They do not establish how those voters cast their ballots or provide individual polling location totals.
