LUBBOCK MAN DIED 15 DAYS AFTER A CRASH AT 130TH AND UPLAND
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 17, 2026

A September collision at 130th Street and Upland Avenue is now being investigated as a fatal crash after a man died from his injuries earlier this month.
Lubbock police said 68 year old Mario Murillo died October 10 following the September 25 wreck. Officers were originally called to the intersection around 3:20 p.m.
Murillo was taken to Covenant Medical Center. The other driver, 28 year old Jonathan Cartmell, was taken to University Medical Center. Both initially had injuries described as moderate.
Preliminary police findings indicated that Cartmell’s pickup ran a stop sign and struck the pickup Murillo was driving. That account remains part of an ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner’s Office notified the Major Crash Unit about Murillo’s death October 13. Police released the update Friday.
No arrests had been made in Friday’s update. The investigation remains open.
