Lubbock Ranch Helps Foster Children With Horses
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 15, 2026

At the Texas Girls and Boys Ranch in Lubbock, children in foster care can work with horses while receiving counseling and support for hard experiences.
The ranch describes equine activities as part of its care for children living with foster families on the property. Equine specialist Danielle Peters teaches them to work with horses and wants the barn to feel welcoming.
Activities include guiding horses through obstacles. Donor relations officer Meagan Miller says that work can help children who struggle to explain what they have experienced.
Peters recalled a child who initially withdrew from others beginning to laugh and engage during a later session.
Support continues after young people leave foster care. Miller described helping a former resident attending Texas Tech while raising a child.
The ranch relies on community donations for children and animal care. Its work connects foster families, counselors and neighbors around needs that continue beyond a placement or a birthday.
