The local artist says the provocative title reflects a period of insecurity, pressure and emotional honesty.

LUBBOCK, Texas: Lubbock rapper King Slum is drawing attention to his latest album with a title that sounds like a joke until listeners understand the meaning behind it.

The project is called “I Suck,” but King Slum said the title was not chosen as a gimmick. Instead, it represents the insecurity, pressure and self doubt he experienced while creating the album.

“Yeah, my album is really called I Suck,” King Slum wrote while promoting the project on Instagram.

“Sounds like a joke until you hear the project,” he continued. “I named it that because it is the most honest thing I could say about where I was, insecure, under pressure, laughing just to keep from spiraling.”

“I Suck” was released July 18 and includes 15 songs with a total running time of nearly 29 minutes. The album opens with “SHIT TALKIN” before moving through records including “TRAP MOTIVATION,” “PAY ATTENTION,” “F.O.F,” “1 OF 1,” “HAVING MY WAY,” “H.E MONEY” and “FLOOR SEATS.”

The second half of the project includes “ONE WISH,” “TRAPSTAR ACE FREESTYLE,” “HOOD TESTIMONEY,” “GOALIE REEL,” “FWAT,” “THUG CRY” and the closing song, “STREETZ ALONE.”

While several of the titles reflect confidence, street life and ambition, King Slum said the emotions behind the album were rooted in personal uncertainty.

“Every bar and every melody on this album came from that place,” he wrote. “Doubt, but make it beautiful.”

The statement gives the album title a deeper meaning. Instead of pretending to have everything figured out, King Slum appears to use “I Suck” as an admission of the thoughts many artists experience privately while attempting to create, perform and build an audience.

The project also continues King Slum’s connection to Lubbock and the 806. His previous releases include “Tha Last Tape,” “Lubbock Most Wanted” and “Lubbock’s Most Wanted.” Spotify also lists “LEGS UP” among his 2026 releases.

King Slum encouraged listeners to stream the album and decide whether its name should be considered a hard title or a wild one.

“I Suck” is available now on major streaming platforms. Listeners can follow King Slum on Instagram at @kingslum806 for additional stories and information connected to the album.
