LUBBOCK’S WATERING RULES CHANGE
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 2, 2026

Lubbock’s fall and winter irrigation restrictions are now in effect, bringing a temperature limit to the city’s regular watering schedule. The seasonal rules began October 1 and continue through March 31, 2027.
Landscape irrigation is allowed only when temperatures are above 35 degrees and only on the property’s 2 assigned watering days each week. Addresses ending in 0, 3, 4 or 9 water Monday and Thursday. Addresses ending in 1, 5 or 6 water Tuesday and Friday. Addresses ending in 2, 7 or 8 water Wednesday and Saturday.
The city also prohibits irrigation during precipitation and requires residents to avoid runoff. Hand watering remains allowed on any day and at any time.
This winter temperature rule is intended to keep irrigation water from creating hazardous conditions when roads freeze. Residents can prepare systems before the first freeze by checking exposed equipment and using rain and freeze sensors. The change does not give properties extra watering days during cooler weather.
