Medicare enrollment opens with Lubbock help
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 16, 2026

Medicare’s annual enrollment window opens Thursday, October 15, giving Lubbock beneficiaries until December 7 to review coverage for 2027.
During this period, eligible beneficiaries can change Medicare Advantage plans, change prescription drug plans or switch between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Changes generally take effect January 1 when the plan receives the enrollment request by the deadline.
Help is available through the South Plains Area Agency on Aging. Its benefits counseling program helps people compare Medicare options and understand prescription coverage. The agency can be reached at 806 687 0940.
A useful review includes checking whether a plan covers a person’s doctors, prescriptions and preferred pharmacies, along with its premiums and other costs. Benefits can change annually.
Medigap has separate enrollment protections and restrictions. The annual window does not guarantee that someone switching to Original Medicare can buy any supplement policy they want.
