Possible Remains Found Near Palo Duro Canyon

Hunters found possible human remains on private property near the rim of Palo Duro Canyon on Tuesday, prompting an investigation led by the Texas Rangers. Armstrong County Sheriff Melissa Anderson said the discovery was made around 1 p.m.

The remains will undergo forensic examination to establish whose they are and determine a cause of death. An identity had not been confirmed in the information released Wednesday.

“The remains will be submitted for forensic examination to assist in determining identity and cause of death,” Anderson said.

The discovery was within 2 miles of the location where a missing man’s vehicle was found in January. That proximity does not establish the identity of the remains, and officials have not announced a confirmed connection to a particular disappearance.

The Rangers did not release details about the investigation. The announcement did not identify a cause of death or report a criminal charge.

The case is developing while forensic work remains pending.
