TEXAS TECH CLIMBS TO NO. 11 AND NO. 9 ENTERING ITS BREAK
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 5, 2026

Texas Tech moved up in both major football polls Sunday, reaching No. 11 in the national media rankings and No. 9 in the coaches rankings as the Red Raiders enter their only open week.
The new standings followed Saturday’s 29 to 7 win at Colorado. Tech is 5 and 0 overall and 2 and 0 in Big 12 play, and has opened consecutive seasons with 5 wins for the first time in program history.
The team has now appeared in the polls for 23 consecutive weeks, its longest stretch ever. Tech is the conference’s second highest ranked team in both polls behind BYU.
The next game is October 17 against Arizona State at Galaxy Stadium. That matchup is already sold out, with the Red Raiders carrying an 11 game home winning streak into their next home appearance.
The kickoff time and television assignment had not been announced in Sunday’s update. The conference could make that information available through its selection process Monday.
