“We Just Braced”: Alexis and Aaliyah Wallace Recount Terrifying Wrong Way Crash on Interstate 27

Sisters Alexis and Aaliyah Wallace were headed to pick up furniture for their new apartment when a wrong way driver turned their trip into a fight for survival.

Speaking with The806er, the sisters recalled riding in their father’s lifted pickup truck along Interstate 27, singing along to country music. Aaliyah looked up from her phone and saw a vehicle heading directly toward them.

Then came the impact.

Aaliyah said she briefly lost consciousness after the airbags deployed. She recalled Alexis waking her and warning that the truck was burning. They needed to get out.

But the passenger door was jammed.

Aaliyah described repeatedly kicking the door and throwing her body against it until it finally opened, allowing the sisters to escape.

The crash left them with serious injuries, including broken feet. The sisters believe the height and sturdy build of their father’s pickup helped them survive the collision.

As they recover, Alexis and Aaliyah expressed gratitude that they survived and could share their story together. Their interview offers a firsthand account of the terrifying collision, their struggle to escape and the recovery that followed.
