Abbott Leads Hinojosa 52% to 48% in CBS News Poll as Texans Begin Voting
TEXAS — Gov. Greg Abbott held a 4 percentage point advantage over Democratic challenger Gina Hinojosa in a CBS News/YouGov poll released just before early voting began.
The survey put Abbott at 52% and Hinojosa at 48% among likely voters, showing a competitive contest as Texans began casting ballots Monday, October 19.
The results represent voter preferences during the survey period, not ballots already counted or a prediction of the final outcome. A numerical lead in one poll does not guarantee victory.
For voters in Lubbock and across the South Plains, the governor’s race is among the statewide contests they will help decide alongside races for local leadership.
The opening of early voting shifts the focus from polling numbers to participation. Both campaigns now face the task of turning support into actual votes before the election concludes.
Early voting continues through Friday, October 30. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
