TEXAS APPROACHES EARLY VOTING WITHOUT 2 MAJOR RACE DEBATES

Texas voters are nearing early voting without an announced general election debate in either the governor’s race or the U.S. Senate race.

Republican Governor Greg Abbott faces Democrat Gina Hinojosa. Republican Ken Paxton faces Democrat James Talarico in the Senate contest.

As of Monday’s reporting, Paxton had not accepted Talarico’s repeated debate requests. His team had said in July that he would participate. Hinojosa has also criticized Abbott for not agreeing to debate.

That differs from recent election history. Abbott debated opponents in his 3 previous campaigns for governor.

Early voting begins October 19. Election Day is November 3. A debate could still be arranged, but no date had been announced in the latest report.

Lubbock voters can compare interviews and policy proposals while debate plans remain unresolved.
