GULF DISTURBANCE ORGANIZED INTO TROPICAL DEPRESSION NINE
Written by The806er Previs Senior · Filed October 7, 2026

A weather system in the southwestern Gulf organized into Tropical Depression Nine Tuesday.
The system had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph Tuesday afternoon. Forecasters expected it to strengthen into Tropical Storm Isaias and potentially reach hurricane strength before approaching the northern Gulf Coast later this week.
The projected center was east of Texas, with the forecast focused on the central and eastern Gulf Coast. The path and intensity remain subject to change as the system develops.
A forecast cone describes where the center may travel. It does not show the full area that could experience rain, wind or dangerous surf.
The forecast matters to 806 residents with Gulf Coast travel plans. Wind shear could affect how strong the system becomes. Local Wednesday conditions are still forecast to be sunny in Lubbock.
