ISAIAS LEAVES GULF COAST FLOODING AND OUTAGES

Gulf Coast communities faced flooded roads, fallen trees and widespread power outages Saturday after Isaias came ashore near Destin, Florida.

The storm made landfall Friday as a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. By early Saturday, it had weakened below hurricane strength.

More than 664,000 customers in Florida and Alabama were without power early Saturday. That outage count was an early Saturday snapshot.

Roads in Destin flooded, and Pensacola police warned residents about debris across streets. Mobile, Alabama, also reported fallen trees and power lines. Some Florida Panhandle counties suspended emergency response during the most dangerous conditions Friday night.

For West Texans with relatives there or upcoming Gulf Coast travel, the continuing concerns include road access, electricity and local emergency instructions.

The storm’s weaker winds did not erase flooding and debris left behind. The full extent of damage was still being assessed in Saturday’s update.
