Hockley County Democrats Celebrate Opening Day Voting Milestone

HOCKLEY COUNTY, Texas — Hockley County Democrats celebrated what they described as a strong opening day of early voting Monday, saying participation matched the number of voters who took part in the county’s entire March Democratic primary.

“Today, we had as many people vote today as the entire March Dem primary,” the organization announced after voting began October 19.

The comparison highlights the group’s enthusiasm about participation heading into November. However, general election turnout includes voters across political affiliations and does not indicate how those voters cast their ballots.

The organization also claimed Hockley County ranked No. 1 in the region when comparing turnout with past elections. The806er has not independently confirmed that ranking or obtained a complete regional comparison from election officials.

“This milestone is thanks to all of us who cherish democracy and want to see a better Texas for all,” the group wrote.

The organization said it planned to announce additional neighborhood block walks as it continued encouraging residents to participate.

The announcement came as community organizations across the South Plains promoted voting through group visits to polling locations, neighborhood outreach and transportation assistance.

Early voting continues through October 30. Election Day is November 3.
