I 27 FRONTAGE ROAD REOPENS AFTER BRIDGE STRIKE, BUT REPAIRS ARE NOT FINISHED

Drivers using the northbound I 27 frontage road at South Loop 289 have a reopening update following Tuesday’s bridge strike.

All northbound frontage road lanes have reopened, along with 2 lanes of the eastbound Loop 289 frontage road bridge. The reopening restores access at an interchange where traffic had been diverted after a truck hauling an excavator hit the bridge.

Drivers approaching the eastbound frontage road from the southbound I 27 frontage road or cloverleaf must yield before merging.

The October 6 collision damaged several bridge beams. No injuries were reported, and the truck driver received a citation for an alleged overheight violation.

Crews removed debris and overhead guide signs while assessing the damage. Some beams will need to be repaired or replaced, but a completion timeline has not been announced.

For residents heading through the area Friday, reopened lanes do not mean every repair is finished. The latest update allows traffic through the specified lanes while repairs to the damaged beams still lack a completion date.

Drivers should follow posted signs and the revised yield requirement at the interchange.
