Truck Damage Keeps An Interstate 27 Frontage Road Closed

A damaged bridge continues to affect a Lubbock route after a truck hauling an excavator struck the South Loop 289 frontage road bridge Tuesday evening.

The latest repair update said northbound Interstate 27 frontage road traffic was being diverted to U.S. 84. The structure carries the eastbound Loop frontage road over the northbound Interstate frontage road.

No injuries were reported. The truck and excavator were removed, and the driver received a citation for an over height load.

Crews said several bridge beams were damaged and would need repair or replacement. Work also included removing roadway debris and overhead guide signs.

The road below must remain closed until debris is cleared and the beams are secured against material falling onto traffic. Officials had not provided a reopening date.

Drivers should follow the posted detour. The affected route is the frontage road.
