LAMESA WOMAN DIED IN A CRASH; DRIVER FACES 2 FELONY CHARGES

A 39 year old Lamesa woman died after being struck on U.S. 180 early Saturday, and a local man now faces 2 felony charges in connection with the crash.

Police identified the woman as Maribel Perez. Officers responded west of Lamesa shortly before 1:15 a.m. October 3 and found her at the scene.

Investigators allege the driver left and continued into town. About 4 hours later, Lamesa police and state troopers located and arrested Aaron Aguilar, 27.

Aguilar was booked into the Dawson County Detention Center on charges of intoxication manslaughter and failure to render aid resulting in death. Those charges are allegations and do not establish guilt.

The available report did not provide a bond amount, a court date, a statement from Aguilar or additional findings explaining the moments before the collision. The case remains developing.
