“I Just Thank God My Babies Are Still Here”: Mother Says Her 2 Children Were Hit by Vehicle Near Wolffarth Elementary
LUBBOCK, Texas — A mother says her 5 year old suffered a concussion and her 15 year old sustained minor hip and leg injuries after a vehicle struck both children near Wolffarth Elementary School around 7:30 a.m. Monday, October 19.
Vyctoria, the children’s mother, told The806er both children survived. She described feeling grateful they were alive and angry over what she alleged was a driver speeding through a school zone.
“I just thank GOD my babies are still here with me on this earth,” she said. “I need people to be aware of how fast my life would have changed over someone else’s reckless actions!”
Her account also clarifies an earlier report that a mother and child had been struck. According to Vyctoria, the 2 people hit were her children, ages 5 and 15.
Vyctoria alleged that the driver told people at the scene she was lost and looking for directions. The mother said she felt the woman was attempting to justify what happened.
“There is no excuse for you to almost kill a child with your vehicle,” she said.
According to Vyctoria, 4 witnesses saw the vehicle speeding through the school zone and heard the impact. She said witnesses challenged the driver’s explanation and that police responded to the scene. Those witness accounts and the vehicle’s speed have not been independently verified by The806er.
The mother said she wants the incident taken seriously, expressing concern that another family could experience an even worse outcome.
“I’ll be sure that this doesn’t get swept under the rug,” she said.
The information provided to The806er does not establish whether the driver received a citation or faces charges. The reported injuries and circumstances of the collision are based on the mother’s account.
