MEDICARE ENROLLMENT IS OPEN, WITH A DECEMBER 7 DEADLINE FOR LUBBOCK FAMILIES

Lubbock residents with Medicare can now review their health and prescription coverage for 2027 during the annual enrollment period that opened October 15.

The window runs through December 7. Eligible beneficiaries can change Medicare Advantage or prescription drug plans, or move between Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare. Changes made during this period generally take effect January 1.

A plan comparison includes more than the monthly premium. Prescription coverage, deductibles, pharmacy participation and whether a doctor accepts a plan can all affect the cost of care.

A current prescription list can help families compare the plans available in their area.

Free counseling is available through the State Health Insurance Assistance Program. Medicare also provides assistance at (800) 633 4227. People with other insurance should check how a change would affect that coverage before enrolling.
