Paducah Warns Residents About Drinking Water

Paducah residents were advised to use bottled or boiled water after officials reported E. coli in the city’s drinking water supply.

The bacteria were detected October 9. The boil water notice remained in place in the October 13 update while officials planned additional sampling.

The notice affects more than drinking water. Residents were told to use bottled or boiled water for brushing teeth, preparing food, making ice and washing dishes.

City officials instructed customers to boil water for 1 minute and let it cool before use. Infants, older adults and people with weakened immune systems face greater risks from contaminated water.

A projected testing timeline is not an all clear. Customers should follow the notice until the water system announces it has been lifted. That requires correcting the problem and acceptable testing.

The update did not establish the specific cause of contamination. Residents can call (806) 492 3713 for information about the notice and current conditions.
