SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS WILL RISE 3.6% IN 2027, WITH AN AVERAGE $75 INCREASE

West Texas residents receiving Social Security now have an official number for next year’s benefit adjustment: 3.6%.

The increase begins with January 2027 Social Security payments. The average retirement benefit will rise by about $75 a month, according to the announcement released Wednesday.

Increased Supplemental Security Income payments begin December 31, 2026.

The percentage applies to benefits before individual deductions. A person receiving a $2,000 monthly benefit would see a $72 increase before any changes to deductions.

Personal notices will show each recipient’s new amount and deductions. Notices will appear online beginning in late November and arrive by mail in December.

For households planning around retirement or disability income, the announced increase belongs to next year’s budget. The adjustment does not increase the regular Social Security payments arriving this month.
