SOUTH PLAINS CHASE LEADS TO 230 MONTH SENTENCE

A pursuit that took officers from Lubbock toward Brownfield has ended with a federal prison sentence of 19 years and 2 months.

Erik Louis Almaguer, 32, of New Mexico, was sentenced October 8 after pleading guilty in May to a drug distribution offense and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

Judge James Wesley Hendrix imposed 170 months for the drug offense and 60 months for the firearm offense, totaling 230 months.

Records described an October 9, 2025, traffic stop attempt in Lubbock that became a pursuit reaching speeds above 100 mph. Officers in Brownfield flattened 2 tires with spike strips, but the vehicle continued until officers disabled it.

Almaguer then ran and was arrested. Investigators recovered more than 300 grams of methamphetamine and a loaded handgun. In his plea, he admitted possessing the drugs for distribution and the gun in relation to trafficking.

Investigators included Lubbock, Brownfield and county agencies working with federal drug investigators.
