South Plains Pursuit Led To A 19 Year Prison Term

A man who led officers from Lubbock toward Brownfield in 2025 was sentenced Thursday to 230 months in federal prison, or 19 years and 2 months.

Erik Louis Almaguer, 32, pleaded guilty in May to possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possessing a firearm in connection with drug trafficking.

The sentence included 170 months for the drug offense and an additional 60 months for the firearm offense. The terms will be served consecutively.

Court documents dated the pursuit to October 9, 2025, after an attempted Lubbock traffic stop. Almaguer continued toward Brownfield, reaching speeds above 100 mph and drawing assistance from multiple agencies.

Officers eventually disabled the vehicle and took him into custody. In plea documents, Almaguer admitted possessing more than 300 grams of methamphetamine for distribution and a loaded handgun connected to that activity.

The investigation involved federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in Lubbock, Hockley and Terry counties.
