TRUMP CALLED FOR PAXTON AND TALARICO TO DEBATE AS TEXAS EARLY VOTING APPROACHED

President Donald Trump called for Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico to debate as Texas prepares for its November 3 Senate election.

Talarico responded Thursday: “President Trump just said Ken Paxton should debate. I agree.”

No debate had been scheduled as of October 8. Paxton’s campaign previously said he would debate, but later objected to proposed moderators. Talarico had requested 3 televised debates.

For Lubbock voters, early voting begins Monday, October 19, and continues through Friday, October 30. That puts the first day of voting 10 days away from Friday, October 9.

Eligible voters seeking a ballot by mail face a separate deadline. Their applications must be received by Friday, October 23. A postmark on that date does not satisfy the application deadline.

The voter registration deadline for this election passed October 5. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.

A debate announcement would be separate from those voting deadlines. Residents planning when to cast their ballots can use the confirmed election calendar while the campaigns continue discussions over a possible televised meeting.
