ERCOT PAUSES CEO CONTRACT AFTER TEXAS LEADERS QUESTION MULTIMILLION DOLLAR PACKAGE

ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission approved a 6 year extension for chief executive Pablo Vegas, then paused execution of the agreement after Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick objected. A public presentation showed potential earned compensation of about $6.4 million in 2027, though ERCOT said the maximum cash paid that year could be closer to $4.1 million. The package included a $1.16 million base salary, performance incentives and a $1.4 million payment connected to compensation Vegas would leave behind under his existing deal. Patrick said the proposal was inappropriate while consumers face higher utility costs. The agreement has not been finalized. Vegas remains under his current contract, which runs through 2027, while ERCOT determines whether to revise or reconsider the extension.
