Lamesa Mother Questions Israeli Flags Reportedly Placed Around Middle School Practice Field

A Lamesa mother is calling for answers after Israeli flags were reportedly placed around the practice field at Lamesa Middle School.

Kasandra Cortez shared a photograph on Facebook appearing to show a small Israeli flag attached to a wooden marker near the field.

“Lamesa Middle School having Israeli flags on each corner of the practice field is absolutely DISGUSTING!! Lamesa ISD do better,” Cortez wrote before adding, “Free Free Palestine.”

Her post quickly sparked discussion among community members, with some supporting her concerns and others arguing that people should not feel pressured to choose a side in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

The photograph alone does not establish who placed the flags, why they were displayed, how long they had been there or whether Lamesa ISD approved the display. No public explanation addressing the flags appeared on the district’s news page when reviewed.

The situation has raised questions about what political or international symbols should be displayed on public school property and whether parents should be notified about their purpose.

The806er welcomes a response from Lamesa ISD explaining who placed the flags, the reason for the display and whether the district has a policy governing similar displays on campus.
