Texas Tech Climbs to No. 5 in Coaches Poll
Written by KAYLA WILLIAMS · Filed October 19, 2026

Texas Tech climbed to No. 5 in the coaches poll and No. 8 in the AP rankings released Sunday, the team’s highest coaches ranking this season.
The move followed Saturday’s 53 to 25 win over Arizona State and a weekend of losses elsewhere near the top of college football. Tech rose 4 places in the coaches voting and 2 in the AP poll.
The Red Raiders have now appeared in the national polls for more than 25 consecutive weeks, the longest streak in program history. They enter this week with 6 wins and no losses and remain among 6 unbeaten teams nationally.
The Big 12 accounts for half of that unbeaten group. BYU and Utah also stand at 6 wins without a loss, and all 3 programs appear in the top 10 this week.
Tech’s next assignment is its first visit to Cincinnati’s Nippert Stadium on Saturday, October 24. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. Central, with national TV coverage on FS1.
Sunday’s rankings recognize Tech’s position entering the week. The next opportunity to strengthen that standing comes on the road.
